Our Story
Once upon a time there were two friends…
Before we are partners, we are friends.
We have known each other for a lifetime.
From the days when our work in Venice-which between them could not be further apart-we have been known.
I, Fabio, have been involved in antiques now for a quarter of a century.
I have worked-and continue to work-for prestigious auction houses in Italy and abroad, and I run a variety of businesses in the art and luxury sector ranging from consulting to buying and selling with everything in between that you can think of.
Ivo is among the two the precise one, the one who pays attention to technical details.
It may be a consequence of his work as a computer scientist and network analyst, his innate ability to find solutions to problems that seem insurmountable to most.
What united us all those years ago was a common passion (or perhaps it would be more accurate to call it an obsession) for the mountains.
Then many other things helped strengthen our bond, including difficult times that we still managed to overcome.
“We named him Mayer, with a name like that what else could you do!!!?”
In the end, after an afternoon of speculation and proposals, perhaps the craziest idea of all came out: creating our own brand.
Why limit ourselves to talking about watches when we could have talked – or even better, told – about our watch?
We were lucky, on our side we already had a perfect name ready without having to rack our brains to come up with a suitable, evocative, easy and immediate one to immediately stick in everyone’s mind: Mayer.
Ivo’s last name had in it everything we needed.
International appeal, the right combination of vowels and consonants, a beautiful sound.
Five letters, like many of the planetarily successful brands in the watchmaking world that we would model ourselves after.
The graphic study for the logo also came almost spontaneously.
Once we found the right font, we added the wording in full and that was it.
MAYER 804M, our first model
Now came the most beautiful thing: to give substance to a dream.
The starting point was clear to both of us. We wanted a watch that was a synthesis of our skills and fully reflected our taste in watchmaking.
A watch with a deliberately vintage spirit that respected the condition of having small seconds at 6 o’clock.
We designed a dial, put time and passion into it, making mistakes, changing details and features with each new version.
We were thrilled with the result and that is what now finds its place inside our Mayer 804M.
A dial with a dark gray background with a sunray finish, a metallic outer ring where the Arabic numerals for the even hours and small rectangular hour markers for the odd hours find their place, with the special feature of an X in place of the 10.
Everything, X-numbers-indices, was made in relief and applied to the upper surface of the dial and then filled with Luminova.
Everything else then came in a cascade: the choice of hands, the satin finish of the steel case, the engravings on the case back and crown, and the decision to use top-quality leather to make straps strictly made in Italy.
All to surround the beating heart of our project: the Peseux 7076 caliber.
A Swiss caliber of great quality and reliability, a vintage caliber like the spirit that the Mayer 804M was meant to reflect.

We have written the first chapter of an adventure that we hope will take us far and last for a long time.
